Independent Therapy

The Speech Clinic provides high-quality, evidence-based speech and language therapy to children and adults in South Wales.

Many of our patients choose independent therapy because of concern about the lengthy waiting times and short intervention blocks offered by the NHS. With our service, you receive intervention in accordance with your needs.

The Speech Clinic provides assessment and therapy sessions as frequently as required. The Speech and Language Therapist can attend your home or school, or you can attend our clinics in Swansea or Cardiff rooms.

Independent therapy allows the patient or their parents to determine the duration of treatment with the advice of the therapist.

We are committed to providing an exceptional service, which allows our patients to progress rapidly and to fully achieve their potential.

Speech and Language Therapists

The Speech Clinic employs fully qualified, state-registered Speech and Language Therapists with Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure. Our therapists are members of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, the Health Professions Council and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice. The Speech Clinic's therapists are committed to providing the highest quality of service to our patients and their families.

Professional Liaison

Speech and Language Therapy

Most of our patients use independent Speech and Language Therapy services to supplement their NHS intervention.
We are keen to work alongside NHS Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and medical teams. It may be appropriate for our therapist to attend multi-disciplinary planning meetings and annual reviews in order to discuss progress and plan future intervention.

When school-age children join The Speech Clinic, we seek parents' consent to liaise with their school teacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator. This liaison allows us to discuss the child's progress in clinic and school, and facilitates generalisation of skills outside of the clinic environment.

Medical Team

Patients with other involved medical professionals, such as the Paediatrician, Neurologist, ENT Consultant, Occupational Therapist and Educational Psychologist, will be encouraged to provide consent for The Speech Clinic to liaise with the multi-disciplinary team. Such team working facilitates efficacious therapy and has a greater impact for the patient.
